Has anyone used one of these? They were really popular with everyone I talked to in Havasu. What does the BABC crowd think?

I've heard them called a "box" anchor, people seem to like them.

I'd love to try one, they look like they'll grab right now. I get real tired of my danforth's taking forever to grab hold...

I just used our 'small' box anchor for our 26' Formula. I used it on Lake Michigan in a sandy area. The box anchor worked great with little scope and no chain. The anchor grabbed immediately and did not slip once over a 4-hour period (there was about 10-15mph wind, but little chop).

Love it!!!

I was reading about them here a while ago. I was looking for a small overnight stern anchor. Not enough positive experience to convince me.

I've thought about it, but same as Phatboy. Not enough positive to convince me to try one. If someone local had one I could borrow, I would be all over it.

Go to www.offshoreonly.com or www.hotboat.com and do a search for 'box anchor'. You will find a lot of positive feedback.

I bought one this spring. Replaced a 12lb danforth that held well but wouldn't fit in my anchor locker.

Pros:
Folds up and fits in a smaller space than a conventional anchor.
Holds really well in the soft sand bottom where I boat.

Con:
Heavy. Suprisingly heavy for it's size. My wife has trouble locking it open without putting it down on the deck.

I think we have the large one. Should've used the medium one as the large one is very heavy. Seems like the shipping box said like 75lbs. Good news is little scope as holds very well. We have one beach that is really sandy and it drags a bit there but every where else it [censored] near cements itself to the ground.
