I've been nothing but pleased with Firefox, until I recently downloaded their new browser.

For months I've had all the BABC forums I frequent in a specific "bookmarks" folder--from there I click "open all in tabs", and all the pages would load...

So--what happened to "open all in tabs"???? It's gone! I can only open one at a time! However, at the top of my list of BABC forums, where I don't want ANYTHING, was something like "recently viewed" or something (forget exactly, just got rid of it) and if I clicked on that, the recent pages would come up, WITH the option to "open all in tabs" But if I go to OTHER pages, then THEY load, not BABC pages!! ???

Now, if I right-click on the 'bookmarks' tool folder, there's an option to open all in tabs, but then it tells me there's 45 pages that will load...??

*#^$!%*%*# it!! I hate when gunnertheygunner2 fix it when it wasn't broke... mad

If anyone has a fix, I'm listening! (one page at a time) rolleyes

Yea, I dl'd 3.0 as well and I don't like it either. Slow, memory hogger, history list .. it's all different. There's a thread in the computer section here that gives some tips on it, but I may try and do a restore and go back to 2.x

Well, I just dumped the new and went back to the old. I still had the old setup program so I just uninstalled 3.0 and ran the old setup again.

I want my girl cute to look at and my browser to WORK, not the other way around (although....nah, I'll shut up)

I found an add-in that worked around the 3.0 issue you mentioned FR. I forget name of it but could look at work tomorrow. Still using 2.x at home. It works great and gives a little more tab functions also.

I'm not very happy so far either. The number of URLs in history has shrunk dramatically, and they aren't necessarily the ones you've visited most recently or most often.

I also switched, it's most definitely slower.

Thanks for the feedback. I just had the window pop up wanting me to update. Instead of clicking later for the umpteenth time, I clicked never. I'll stick with what I like already.

I have a friend who swears by Firefox and the available plugins. I personally recently got fed up w/ the slowness of IE and have come to like Safari; its available for Windows PCs now. It used to just be for Apple computers. It doesn't have a lot of the plugins of Firefox, but does what I want.

RE: going back to a previous version. It was recently recommended to me to do just what FR evidently does, keep a folder of downloaded setup.exe files so that its easy to go back to previous versions of various programs when updates don't work out so well.

I haven't tried Mozilla in a long time. I also heard today that Microsoft is beta testing a browser developed to be much faster as they are really starting to feel the Firefox and other browser defections and are worried.

EDIT: I should give a nod to D-Rod...I think I first heard about Safari for Windows from a post by him in another thread. thumb

Yep, I read IE8 is in Beta testing now....

(I just upgraded to 7 a week ago!)

My main browser is SeaMonkey (Mozilla equivalent to the now defunct Netscape Communicator Suite)

I'm sure the browser is a Firefox derivative, so I guess I won't be upgrading SeaMonkey anytime soon based on FR's feedback....

FireFox has an add-on that gives your up to date tide charts...

I've updated both my PC's to the latest FF and it works well for me. I understand they have made the typical corrections and stuff that always need to be done with a new release.

I have the FF 3.0.1 version and it has the "open all tabs" in the drop down menu of each of my folders.

One of the new add ons is Fire FM.
It's a music option. You make a list of all your favorite artists and albums. Then it plays them randomly for you.
It will also make suggestions for other artists based on what you have entered.

New Google Browser "Chrome": **Countdown link Removed...see a couple of posts down for direct link...was incorrect 3rd party site**

I'm hearing this will be the link: gears.google.com/chrome/?hl=en

Official Google blog: Link

Reuters Article: Link

p.s. I've been messing around w/ Firefox the last few days and have actually come to like it...now I'll have to check this one out too. Initially I had some font/print display issues w/ Firefox, but have got them manageable now.

EDIT: One last link from the Google Blog...the descriptive "comic" that got "accidentally" leaked: google comic

This "comic" is 40 pages long...eyes glossed over a few times, but some good ideas.

One example is any IE user knows when you hit a hangup on one Tab, you end up crashing your whole browser w/ however many Tabs you have open along with it. Supposedly, that won't happen w/ Chrome. Each Tab is more independent. One Tab may crash, but not the others. Also, when you close a Tab all the memory and other resources attached to it close with it, so you shouldn't get a cumulative slowdown as you work throughout the day opening and closing various Tabs.

Another is a strong attempt to have more processes able to occur simultaneously as a web page loads. This is also a big thrust of the next IE as I understand it. Kind of amazing that MSFT w/ their browser history couldn't have done this better first. Of course it remains to be seen how well Google pulls off Chrome but...

I'm using Chrome right now, and I like what I've seen so far. The "separate process for separate tabs" idea is great. I've lost count of the number of times I've hung Firefox opening a .pdf, which requires killing everything and opening up all the other tabs again.

IE 8 actually has this feature as well. I noticed it last week when I installed the beta. A message popped up when I went to a certain web page telling me it was restarting the application. The tab I was running in was replaced by the new startup tab. All of the other tabs remained working.
