Boating Message Board and Forum
Board Rules
A note for AOL, Earthlink array(and perhaps others) users.

These two ISPs treat a lot of e-mail as spam and do not let them get though to the "In Boxes" of their users.

When you register, the board will send you an e-mail that contains your password. You will not be able to log into the board until you receive this password.

If the e-mail address you are going to use when registering is an AOL or Earthlink account, you will FIRST need to tell the service that it is OK to receive e-mails from the BoatingABC.com domain.

To accomplish this, see the help files for the e-mail system of your ISP.

Sorry if you run into this inconvenience, but we have NO control over this.

Note: By agreeing to these rules, you are certifying that you are at least 13 years of age. If you are NOT at least 13 years old, you MUST first contact the Administrator of this Board. Please contact us at board_admin@boatingabc.com.

The first and foremost rule of this board is to have fun! We are, after all, boaters! It's what we do!

This board's purpose in life is to provide a medium for the friendly exchange of ideas, opinions and information about boating and the boating lifestyle. You are encouraged to participate in all discussions on this board about all things boating.

Please be aware that this board is rated "G", intended to be suitable for all audiences. Therefore, please use language that is suitable for the whole family.

You are welcome to post graphics related to boating. However, it is inappropriate to post anything that is not suitable for viewing by small children. Further, please be considerate of those who do not have high speed Internet connection by not postig graphics that are excessively large in file size. As a rule of thumb, if the file is bigger than 50-Kbyte, it is getting on the large size.

The Administrator and Moderators reserve the right to make final judgement as to the appropriateness or suitability of all postings on this board. They can and will delete, on sight and without notice, any postings found to be inappropriate or unsuitable.

Everyone is asked to be considerate of each other's views and opinions. Please refrain from "Flaming", "Slamming" or otherwise making derogatory remarks about a fellow member or their opinions. You are welcomed and encouraged to voice opinions and engage in polite debate. We all learn through a reasoned discussion.

Language Use:

In keeping with our orientation of being for the whole family and the rule that all postings be readable by young children, please keep in mind that the use of non-alphabet characters to spell out words that are inappropriate in "polite" company is not permitted. Several variants of these "spellings" have been entered into the non-allowed list. However, there is no way to enter in every possible configuration. The moderators of this board do not have the time to manually edit out such instances and thus will simply delete the entire posting that is found to contain any such creative spellings of inappropriate words.

  • Cross-post array(post your message in more than one place on this board). This will actually hinder you from getting a rapid answer, and repeated cross-posting may result in your being banned.

Rules Pertaining to Images Within Signatures
The following will govern the usage of images within signatures.

  • The image MUST be directly related to boating. No exceptions.

  • Images MUST NOT be larger than 175 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall. Put another way... The TOTAL space used within a sig for images is not to be greater than 175 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall

  • Images SHOULD NOT be larger than 5,000 bytes in file size.

  • Images are to be in keeping with the boards general policy governing all images in that they should be viewable by the whole family.

Vendors:
Vendors are welcome and encouraged to participate in all discussions on this board.

If you are representing a vendor, boat dealer, boat manufacturer or are otherwise involved in a boating related business, you are encouraged to disclose this information within any postings that you make on this board. The best way to do this is to include this information within your "signature". You can edit your profile once logged in to accomplish this.

One of the purposes of this board is to help fellow boaters learn of new products and services. However, for your own good, please be mindful of the fact that many boaters do not react well to vendors who's first posting is an overt sales pitch and then do not join in on discussions. Further, we all enjoy well thought out and meaningful debate about the relative merit of one product over another.

However, please refrain from making disparaging remarks toward another Vendor on this board. Spamming the board with advertisements is a BIG No No. Any such postings will be deleted on sight and may get you banned from the board.

We welcome you all to boatingabc.com and thank-you in advance for adhering to these simple rules.

IMPORTANT notice about how this board handles your E-Mail address.

This board has a feature that allows one member to send another member e-mail. This can only be done if the receiving member has elected to allow the board to display their address or has elected to allow the board to send an e-mail to them on behalf of the sender. If the second option is selected, the board will send the e-mail while keeping the receiving address hidden from the sender.

When you register, you will have the opportunity to set how this board will handle your e-mail address. There are three possible setting as shown below.

Simply click on the appropriate "Radio Button" and you are all set.

This array(and all other settings) within your profile can be changed anytime you like by editing your profile once logged into the board.

It is the policy of this board to keep all member information private. We will not give out or sell this information to anyone for any reason short of a legitimate court order of proper jurisdiction. It is up to you to choose how this board will handle your e-mail address.
